Shaggy
Real Name: Orville Richard Burrel, (born:
October 22, 1968
)
Shaggy was born Orville Richard Burrell on October 22, 1968. Friends gave him his nickname "Shaggy" from the cartoon "Scooby Doo." Shaggy left Jamaica at the age of 18 to join his mother in Brooklyn, NY, and soon began pursuing a musical career. Two of his early singles "Mampie" and "Big Up," both hard-core Shaggy dancehall tracks, hit #1 on the New York reggae charts. Shaggy joined the U.S. Marines in 1988 after failing to follow up on his early hits and within a few years he found himself in the Iraqi desert fighting in the Gulf War.
Shaggy is a good example of how a single song can quickly take a relatively unknown performer straight to the top. For him, the song was a cover of the mid-'60s early reggae smash "Oh Carolina" (originally done by the Folkes Brothers for Prince Buster).

In January 2008, Shaggy performed a concert with Natalia and En Vogue in Antwerp.
In 2008, UEFA chose Shaggy to record the official anthem for the Mascots (Trix and Flix) of the Euro 2008 football tournament held in Austria and Switzerland. The song is called "Feel the Rush".
